The aim of the Logipix Airside Video Monitoring solution

Logipix developed a multi-level end-to-end video monitoring solution that makes ground control operation easier and more efficient. Thanks to high-resolution panoramic images, automatic VCA-based features and several intelligent functions it also helps creating automatic airside statistics and accelerates workflow in the control room.

The system visually covers the entire airside area by using 200-320 MP Logipix Panorama cameras and high-end PTZ cameras. Controllers can check and track the movement of both personnel and vehicles at the airside, and coordinate their work, making it possible to stick to time schedules. All moving objects can be clearly identified and tracked using advanced VCA.

Logipix Airside Video Monitoring solution aims to guide the attention of controllers to urgent situations, therefore the system helps prevent collisions and other incidents.

 

More efficient airside ground operations

The Logipix Airside Video Monitoring solution greatly facilitates ground operations for both aircraft and Ground Support Equipment (GSE). It is possible to implement our system in three different levels of complexity. Our solutions provide worldwide unique features at each level which make day-by-day operation easier and more organized at the airside. As the complexity level increases so does the system intelligence, but it also requires more advanced hardware, firmware and software components.


Level 1 – High-end Visual Enhancement

At the basic level, Logipix provides video monitoring with extreme high-resolution to observe everyday operations at the airside. Panorama cameras with hundreds of megapixels form a new base for observation. Instead of looking through a window with their naked eyes or with binoculars, operators watch high resolution panoramic images on a video wall and on monitors at their workstations. Airplanes and Ground Support Equipment can be easily tracked at the entire airside area even in low-lighting and bad weather conditions, including at night.

Logipix Panorama Technology

Logipix panoramic technology makes it possible to geometrically stitch together images of individual sensors built into the Panorama camera house. The images are taken in a synchronized fashion, this way objects can not disappear or be duplicated at the stitching borders. White balance correction smoothens the color gradient between the images.

Quality Archive Footage

The system continuously records all the images that have been taken in the system. In case of any negligence or accident the situation can be investigated quickly by watching the quality archive footage.

Storage time of such huge amount of visual data would be very short, but thanks to the Logipix Ageing Technology, the storage period of JPEG2000 video streams can be greatly prolonged.

Level 2 – Automatic Object Tracking and Identification

Efficiency of airside ground operations can be significantly increased by using advanced computer vision technologies and by integrating various airport systems. At this level, the solution features VCA-based object detection, classification and tracking and can also interoperate with existing positioning systems deployed at the airport.

Tracking all objects automatically

The system is able to track both cooperative and non-cooperative moving objects throughout the airside. In case of cooperative vehicles equipped with transponders, Logipix receives important information such as GPS coordinates, tail numbers, flight numbers, call signs, and also GSE related information. The received information is then matched with the VCA-detected objects.

GPS-based Object labeling

VCA-based object tracking and integration with airport positioning systems allow to realize GPS-based object labeling. Namely all received information and the result of object classification can be displayed in labels which are tide to the detected objects and move along with them on the monitoring interface. Operators can click on these labels and the software changes the content of the zoom window immediately, showing the related aircraft.

Tagging and Layering

Controllers can draw virtual layers on the panoramic images. These layers can either be predefined (eg. outline of a parking position) or dynamically added (eg. temporarily closed areas). Visibility of the layers is user right dependent.

User notes can also be recorded on the video display for instance to list which services have already been performed on an airplane.

Automatic Airside Statistics

The very moment of landings and take-offs can be detected by VCA. Based on these data the system can automatically calculate the time that the aircraft have spent at the airport.

Logipix VCA also allows to automatically register times that aircraft spend in various designated areas. Based on these data, valuable calculations and analysis can be made automatically.

Level 3 – Intelligent Airside Management

At the highest level of complexity the Logipix solution realizes automatic Decision Making Support for controllers by providing intelligent VCA functions. The system allows to assign various airside rules to different virtually designated zones within the monitored area. Based on these adopted airside rules the system is able to automatically detect and even estimate several inappropriate events at the airside.

Automatically generated warnings and alarms guide the attention of controllers which can be also filtered. This way they can always focus on the most important events occurring within the monitored area.

Zone-specific Airside Rules

Virtually designated zones with assigned airside rules cover the entire monitored area. In each zone different rules concern to different moving objects based on object types. If an object violates any of the assigned rules the system automatically generate warnings and alarms.

Overspeed Detection at the Airside

Logipix VCA provides VCA-based overspeed detection at the airside for both cooperative and non-cooperative vehicles. Different speed limits can be specified for different type of vehicles in different areas.

Collision Estimation

The Logipix VCA helps prevent accidents by applying Motion Behavior Analysis, Motion Path Estimation and by automatically generating Multi-level Proximity Areas around objects. The size of these areas dynamically vary based on object type, speed and airside zone.

The system also calculates the motion vectors of moving objects. In case the motion vector of an object is pointing to another one and the alarm areas of objects are overlapping, the system generates a warning or an alarm depending on the distance of the two objects.

Perimeter Security

The Logipix solution protects airports from perimeter intrusion. Intrusion detection can rely on the Logipix VCA or on an integrated 3rd-party Perimeter Intrusion Detection System or on both at the same time.

Logipix provides real-time quality image streams of the alarmed area. The alarms trigger the appropriate Panorama, PTZ or the single cameras to automatically deliver zoomed images of the area where the alarms come from. All the alarm events are displayed in an informational event grid on the monitoring interface.
