Walk-DVR

The EU directive on protection of personal data also affects the video recording on public transportation vehicles.
- Video retention time according to laws.
In certain states of Europe, strict rules are in force concerning the storage of video records. The permitted recording time may range from 3 up to 30 days. WDVR automatically deletes the records with time stamp older than permitted by the law.
- Encrypted high resolution details for protection of the privacy rights
As an alternative to deletion, WDVR provides an unparalleled service. It protects the high-resolution parts of the pictures older than the permitted recording time with a password. Without password, any picture downloaded from WDVR can only be displayed in low resolution. The low-resolution picture allows the assessment of the situation, but is inappropriate for personal identification in compliance with the data protection law. The police having the password may view the picture in full resolution.
- Automatic image processing for traffic counting
The continuous and detailed measuring of traffic constitutes an important task for the public transportation providers. Based on the Control Center’s pictures downloaded in regular time intervals, a traffic count can be automated by the aid of an external software.

Equipping the vehicles performing public security tasks raises some technical problems that are difficult to solve.
Thanks to its hybrid video storage system, WDVR can cope with the extreme temperature and vibration conditions emerging in any vehicle.
- Continuous recording of front and rear cameras
Walk-DVR continually records the video of the front and rear camera installed in the police car. Each recorded image contains the car’s current speed and its coordinates. Based on the GPS coordinates, the Control Center is able to automatically find those records created at a particular location and route.
- In action video and sound recording of body camera
The policeman, when stepping out of the car, is allowed to wear a wireless camera during action. By analysing the recorded video and audio, it is possible to verify and prove the legitimate and professional nature of the police operation.
- Automatic archiving in garage over WiFi
The policemen start their duty by holding up a proximity card. Based on the card identification, the Control Center can automatically search for the videos relating to a particular person.
When returning to the site, the Control Center’s video downloading module automatically connects to the WDVR via WiFi interface. Using the Control Center’s video search module, videos compiled by various criteria can be prepared easily from the achieved records:
- Actions of a particular person over the last month
- Records made in a given street, in a particular period
- Videos taken within a given area on any stop lasting longer than 5 minutes
- Videos taken at a speed exceeding a specific limit

The video recorders installed into the automatic teller machines must provide additional tasks of different nature.
- Live video monitoring in case of alarm
Walk-DVR is able to store the pictures of the internal camera monitoring the process of cash refill. WDVR may be linked together with the property protection system of the ATM. When an alarm is triggered, the Control Center can display the Capture video and the prior picture as well.
- 10 hours battery powered operation
In case of main power outage, WDVR continues to operate for further 10 hours, supplied by a 7.h Ah capacity battery.
- Long recording time, up to 180 days
Walk-DVR allows to store the pictures of the camera monitoring the cash withdrawal even for 180 days. The long storage time is indispensable, as misuses by bankcard are often discovered only after several months. The time of administration also necessitates an increased storage time.
- ATM transaction-ID is stored in the event log
In order to ensure unambiguous records, Walk-DVR synchronises its clock with the central time server with a two-second accuracy. If the time of ATM is not accurate, on order to ensure unequivocal search, WDVR is able to store the transaction ID arriving via serial line from the ATM, along with the video.
- Transaction-list based automatic video rendering
For a transaction list, the Control Center automatically downloads the video sections featuring the given transactions.

The remote video surveillance of hardly accessible buildings brings up serious technical issues. The video recorder must operate reliably without maintenance, over a long period of time. The cost of troubleshooting and repair often comes close to an amount comparable to the price of the device.
- High reliability, low maintenance
Due to its low power consumption, the cooling of WDVR is simple, does not require any ventilator. The Flash-based data storage provides a wide temperature range of operation, high level of reliability and long operational life.
- Motion detected in video generates an alarm
When detecting a motion on the video picture, WDVR can send an alarm signal toward the Control Center. In order to increase the signal’s reliability, the motion detector’s function may be combined with signals of external detectors.
- Alarm triggered capture video download
When an alarm is triggered, the Control Center automatically downloads and displays the related video section. It keeps repeating the short section called Capture video, until it is acknowledged. After acknowledgment, the Control Center automatically displays the next Capture video already downloaded.
- Video transmission optimized for GPRS
The download of Capture videos is optimised for the low-bandwidth GPRS network. Upon alarm, the Control Center first queries a video of smaller resolution that can be downloaded in a shorter time. Later on, while displaying the small-resolution video, it downloads the high-resolution video.
- Remote control of security light
The outputs of WDVR can be activated automatically upon alarm, or they can be manually controlled from the Control Center as well. Using this method, the operation of reflectors can be easily solved, for instance.
- Live sound output, alarm triggered warning sounds
By connecting amplifier and speaker to the WDVR’s audio output, the conditions of personal intervention can be facilitated. WDVR transmits the words of the monitoring person into the speaker with a short delay. The delay depends on the bandwidth of the data transmission channel.
Into the WDVR system, voice samples can be downloaded, which will be immediately played upon alarm, or they can be started also manually from the Control Center.
